Mission The Quinte Economic Development Commission (QEDC), an incorporated not-for-profit corporation, is dedicated with two fold mission to the promotion of economic growth in its member municipalities, specifically the City of Belleville, the Municipality of Brighton and the City of Quinte West.
The fold Mission is: 1) To encourage the growth and diversification of those specific industry sectors and businesses now established in the area; and 2) To market the Bay of Quinte Region in order to attract new sector- targeted firms to locate in the community.
QEDC has a dedicated regional focus on the manufacturing and technology sectors due to the strong value added and wealth creating benefits from these sectors and the positive impact the retention, expansion and new investment in these sectors creates across other areas of the economy including, retail, service sector, construction, transportation etc. Every dollar invested in manufacturing generates over $3.05 in total economic activity which is the highest multiplier of any major sector according to Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters (CME).
The QEDC’s role in economic development in clearly defined in relationship to its municipal economic development departments and other related organizations in the region.
Over the past few years, the Quinte Economic Development Commission (QEDC) has been frequently recognized as a top performing economic development group in Canada. The strategies implemented to encourage growth, diversification and investment (from companies who complement existing clusters) are working. In 2008 and 2012, the team won Site Selection Magazine’s ‘Top 10 Best to Invest‘ award and was given Honourable Mention in 2014. The success of Brighton, Quinte West and Belleville’s collaborative approach with QEDC can be seen in the region’s high number of new investments, expansions and jobs.
Keys to QEDC’s success were implementing strategies based on research including: business development, new marketing initiatives, leadership of the Manufacturing Resource Centre (MRC), facilitation of industry events, and strong relationships with regional partners.
